The product

Jane is an AI-powered SaaS platform for business that makes company information accessible through a conversational interface. We strive for Jane to be exemplary of consumerized enterprise software, delivering a well-crafted user experience with no programming required of our clients. Users interact with Jane on their existing messaging interfaces such as Slack, SMS, or email, and they ask their inquiries using natural English language. On the back end, Jane can connect to cloud-based applications such as Salesforce or Gmail, and she can mine the information out of text-based archives such as documents and websites. If a user asks Jane a question she doesn't know, she routes it to a CoPilot — a "human in the loop" who works at the company and provides a response to the inquiry. No matter where the information lives, Jane can get to it.

The role

We're looking for an experienced UX Designer to join our Product team in designing the future of workplace digital interactions. This is primarily centered on designing conversational interactions, so it's much more akin to designing human-to-human service dialogs than it is to designing visual UI's. However, our product experience occasionally extends into designing screen-based interactions as need requires.

The work includes research and synthesis to understand the latent user needs that exist, design explorations to iteratively learn how Jane can best improve daily workflows, ongoing collaboration with your engineering colleagues to assess feasibility and review the implementation as it develops, and conversations with clients and users to continuously improve the product experience.

You will be part of ongoing strategic conversations about the product roadmap and how Jane can maximize the value and delight delivered to clients, and you will help to put best practices in place for the team's design operations.

As part of a fast-growing startup in an emergent industry, you'll get to work on the entire spectrum of our product and client experience, and the skills you've developed in the past will be valued and applied everywhere possible. You will teach your peers and mentor less experienced designers, and additional product and team leadership opportunities will emerge quickly as we continue to grow.

Skilled in the art of keeping simple things simple and making complicated things possible.
You have:

Empathy for the user and a deep understanding of user-centered design (UCD) practices and principles
Ample experience (5 years min) in both digital and non-digital flavors of UX
Ability to identify design opportunities and iteratively evaluate and refine concepts through user-centered research and synthesis
A basic understanding of various technologies, including a sensibility of technical limitations and an interest in the latest technological advancements
Aptitude in aligning product designs to business strategies and goals
Fluency in prototyping across a variety of media, such as sketching, user stories, user journeys, wireframes, Sketch, Invision, Walkiebot, or even the occasional Google Doc
A high level of proficiency with product design management and the experience to advance the team's design operations
Excellent interdisciplinary team collaboration skills, including team leadership
Charming client communication abilities
Extra awesome:

An understanding of typical enterprise software systems such as CRM, HRIS, and others
Experience with quantitative analysis
